The Company was established in 1962 to manufacture the first acetate filter cigarette for the Colombian market. The company contracts the production of tobaccos with the farmers, providing them technical assistance and financial support.
Protabaco processes, threshes, blends and ages tobaccos at its facility located in the city of San Gil, with a capacity to handle 30,000 tons/year.
The cigarette manufacturing facility is located in Bogota and has a capacity to produce 20 billion units/year. A second manufacturing plant is under construction and should be in operation in September of 2007.
The company's main cigarette exports are to South america, the United States and the Caribean and tobacco strips to Europe.
The company is now a Participating Manufacturer in the MSA.
