History

Belair was introduced in the United States by the Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company in 1959 as a mild, filtered king-size (85 mm) menthol brand. Belair 100s were brought out in 1968. The brand was relaunched in the value-priced segment in the 1990s, and has since been discontinued. The American version, with a recessed filter tip, was made in Canada starting in 1960 by Imperial Tobacco Canada, though it was discontinued by the mid-1960s.

The Brazilian version of Belair, which was non-mentholated, was made in long- (80 mm) and king-size (85 mm) by S. A. Brasileira de Tabacos Industrializados Sabrati, and later by R. J. Reynolds Tabacos do Brasil, who withdrew from the Brazilian market in 1990.

An English version was also produced by W. D. & H. O. Wills, a division of the Imperial Tobacco Group.
