The tobacco factory in Chisinau (now the joint-stock company “TUTUN-CTC”) descends from the workshop of filling cigarettes, created in 1924 at outskirts of Chisinau. It was the first enterprise of tobacco industry in Bessarabia.
The tobacco factory in Chisinau (now the joint-stock company “TUTUN-CTC”) descends from the workshop of filling cigarettes, created in 1924 at outskirts of Chisinau. It was the first enterprise of tobacco industry in Bessarabia. Straight after the Second World War the joint enterprise created the production of fermentation of tobacco and workshop of output of cigarettes in this place. The 193 tons of fermented tobacco and approximately 2 mln. of pieces of cigarettes were produced in 1945. Twenty years later, the fermentation factory with the productivity of 10 thousand tons/year was commissioned in 1966. Also, 10 years later – the cigarette production was lead to the power of 9 mlrd. of pieces of cigarettes after the reconstruction and the construction of the new workshop.
..... In 70-80 the tobacco factory in Chisinau became one of the biggest enterprises of ex-USSR and Eastern Europe.
.....During “Reconstruction” the tobacco factory kept its production potential and reconstructed in the same time.
In present the joint-stock company “TUTUN-CTC” is one of the up-to-the-minute enterprises of Republic of Moldova, which, possessing the real potential, and in spite of all existent problems looks with confidence in the future.
One of the main directions of activity of “TUTUN-CTC” is the fermentation production, which, after years increased and became the powerful technical base, remaking the tobacco raw material of different types by two technological schemes: for receiving of fermentation tobacco and high quality tobacco.
The production of oriental tobaccos -Iubileinii, Moldavian, Molovata- incorporates facilities for the following technological operations: loosening, purification from mineral impurities, grading, mixing for ensuring homogeneity of the entire blend and packing in standard bales of 20±2 kg.
There are also threshing facilities for Virginia and Burley tobaccos. The threshing line HAUNI with threshing capacity 5000 tones peryear consists of tipping machine which cutsoff the tops of tobacco leaves, threshers, in which lamina is mechanically separated from the stems and detached from the stems by means of an air flow and redrying where the strips are subjected to treatment with hot air. Further follows packing in big bales up to 100 kg for storage and natural fermentation (ageing). Fermentation is the finishing process in biochemical changes which occur in tobacco leaves and intensify its quality- smoke fragrance and aroma- which are so necessary for using it in tobacco products.
The fermentation production is fit out with the conveyers of fermentation with the power 5200 tons tobacco/year. These conveyers are completed with computerized control system and management of technological process, which allows setting the optimal conditions for each consignment of raw material separately.
The use of existent conveyers and technological schemes allows doing the process of remaking of tobacco raw material continuous that guarantees the normal rhythm of work of equipment, that reduce the terms of remaking of raw material, making better its quality.
By the order of customer fermentation plant can carry out different technological processes in tobacco treatment:
- Reception (entrance) and grading tobaccos according to standard or customers' requirements.
- Preparing of homogeneous tobacco lots of requested quality and its storage up to fermentation.
- Tobacco treatment at different technological schemes and packing in standard bales of 20-22 kg. or big bales of 100kg.
- Fermentation.
- Finishing grading and preparing tobacco for export.
- Processing of the tobacco with sub-standard (poor) quality.
- Purification and processing of small parts of the leaves
The production of tobacco wares “TUTUN-CTC” S.A. has at its disposal traditional and modern progressive technologies, which are applying in world tobacco industry. It is fit out with the complex of specialized shops and sectors for preparation and treatment of cut tobacco mixtures of oriental (“Oriental Blend”), English (“Virginia Blend”) and American (“American Blend”) directions, also for production of cigarettes with or without filter of wide diapason of dimension-types and its packing in hard or warm packets with different aspects of execution and configurations.
The workshops are completed with higher productive flow conveyers and check measuring the equipment from the world famous leading machine building and instrument-making companies from Great Britain, Germany, Austria, France and Holland. The productivity of one complex conveyer achieves 4000-5000 cigarettes/minute.
Each year over 8,0-10,0 thousands tons of raw material from different world regions are remade and produced more than 9,5 mlrd. of pieces of cigarettes of 20-40 denominations – trade brands that are registered at “TUTUN-CTC” S.A.
Modern equipment and highly qualified personnel TUTUN-CTC can meet different requirements of its customers, namely:
Production of joint and license brands.
Production of mono-acetate filters of different sizes and specifications.
Production of cut tobacco blends ( Oriental, American, Virginia Blend).
To control quality and safety characteristics of the products both during the technological process and of the final products, in 1994 there was established a research lab as a subdivision of “TUTUN-CTC” S.A. that during one year was authorized in the National System.
Up-to-date facilities, highly qualified personnel engaged, responsibility, accuracy and devotion - all these qualities help to carry our research works with high effectiveness.
Independence from the production, objectivity in analysis performing, continuous quality control and safety indexes (characteristics) such as the control of (nicotine, tar, residual content of pesticides) ensure high quality level of TUTUN-CTC products.
Compliance of the products of “TUTUN-CTC” with quality and safety standards is confirmed by Compliance Certificates and Sanitary Certificates issued by the competent authorities according to Test Reports executed by the enterprise’s lab.
The accredited laboratory for research and testing of tobacco and tobacco products quality is authorized also to render service to other economic agents according to area of accreditation.
Comparative independent researches carried out by labs of the Minnesota University (USA) showed that content of nitrozoamine provoking cancer is very low in the products of “TUTUN-CTC” S.A
“TUTUN-CTC” is one from a few in Europe and the only one tobacco industrial enterprise in Moldova that introduced and certified Quality System on the basis of International Standard ISO 9001.
Quality System promoted enlargement of the assortment of the produced products in comparatively short time, rise in quality and competitiveness of the products as well as saved expendituresand time on certification of the products.
