Brand Marlboro Canadian
Marlboro Canadian cigarettes are produced in Canada, king size (85 mm), hard pack, 20 cigarettes in a pack. Dear visitors of the site if you have more information about this brand, please edit this info. Thank you for the assistance.
The Marlboro name is owned and trademarked in Canada by a British American Tobacco affiliate(Imperial Tobacco Canada), which has independently from Philip Morris/Altria owned that name since 1932. BAT have staunchly kept the name in use to defend against Philip Morris introducing its much more popular brand to Canada.
Many Canadians are very unaware that cigarettes with the Marlboro name are marketed in Canada -- they are carried by a small number of tobacco stores, and are often stored in the bottom shelves. The link at the top of the page shows the design of the pack.
This hasn't stopped Philip Morris/Altria of introducing the world's most popular cigarette into Canada. In July 2006, the Canadian subsidiary(*Rothman, Benson Hedges Ltd Canada) of Philip Morris/Altria launched, for the very first time, a cigarette that looks like, smells like, and by all accounts, tastes like, the world's largest cigarette brand. The only noticeable difference is that this Marlboro-like brand does not carry the Marlboro name yet the pack has the familiar Marlboro roof-top design on it's packaging.
- Rothmans, Benson & Hedges Inc. (RBH) is the operating subsidiary of Rothmans Inc and 60% owned by the firm. FTR Holding S.A. of Switzerland, an affiliate of the Altria Group, owns the remaining 40%. RBH makes and markets cigarettes and tobacco for roll-your-own use. Its brands include Belvedere, Benson and Hedges, Craven "A," Dunhill (under license), Mark Ten, Number 7, Rothmans, and Viscount. The company purchases most of its tobacco from Canadian growers and controls almost a quarter of the Canadian tobacco-product market. RBH has been bracing itself for the first round of Canadian class-action suits against tobacco companies.
