Manufacturer of American Spirit cigarettes. 

It started in 1982 in Santa Fe, New Mexico when two friends had a dream of creating a better cigarette. Naturally, they looked to their surroundings for inspiration. They looked to American Indian culture and their belief that tobacco should be used in moderation, and in its natural state. Our name, Natural American Spirit, was chosen as a symbol of respect for this tradition.

Almost twenty-five years later we are still as passionate about our product and community as our founders. We still produce only the finest, 100% additive-free natural tobacco products found anywhere and we are still committed to the values our company was founded on.

We work in as transparent a manner as possible, offering straightforward information to educate adult smokers about the pride and quality we put into our tobacco products. But we do not encourage anyone to start smoking or to smoke more. This is why we don’t sell our products over the Internet and support federal, state and local governments in their efforts to stop cigarette sales to minors.

Marketing responsibly is at the heart of how we work. In June 1994, we were the first tobacco company to ask and receive permission from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to print “Sales to Minors Prohibited” on the side of every pack. In addition, we don’t sell products over the Internet to consumers. Nor do we encourage smokers to smoke more. No additives in our tobacco does NOT mean a safer cigarette.

We know it’s not enough just to make a product in an environmentally sustainable way, but we also incorporate those same values into all of our everyday activities. That is why we’re committed to utilizing green energy electricity generated from renewable resources like the sun, wind and organic matter. Currently in Santa Fe, 100% of our purchased electricity is generated through sustainable power and we are working to reach that same level in all of our other facilities.
Through our Organic and Purity Residue Clean (PRC) programs, farmers promote sustainable and earth-friendly practices as they grow their tobacco.

Santa Fe Natural Tobacco Company was founded in NM in 1982. We make two styles of cigarettes made with organic tobacco. All Natural American Spirit tobacco is chemical and additive-free. Since our cigarettes have up to 25% more tobacco in our cigarettes compared with other king sized brands, our cartons are heavier. We are the only maker of Perique tobacco blend cigarettes.
